Licensing Options

As Middleware, the Massive Worlds Toolkit is a software package that is used to communicate between Houdini (Sidefx Software) and the Unreal Engine (Epic Games) for the purposes of creating and managing open worlds in the Unreal Engine and to provide a framework for other tools to be built upon using Houdini.

The Massive Worlds Toolkit provides functionality to connect these applications intelligently and efficiently so that the users can innovate faster.

Below you can find the different licensing options available for the toolkit.

How you will receive the MWT files:

  • The Blackbox assets and Blackbox project files can be acquired from the Patreon page or directly from E-Houdini Academy when you acquire your Blackbox License.
  • For Source Code licenses, files will be sent directly to you.


Additional Update Options:

  • Additionally, updates to the Source can be purchased as an option, providing source code updates for a 1 year period with your Source Code License.

You are authorized to use the Massive Worlds Toolkit if you adhere to the following general conditions:
  1. Licenses to the Massive Worlds Toolkit are issued to a licensee. If you acquired the toolkit via the Patreon Page as a Patreon Subscriber, or through another authorized method, you are considered the Licensee. Such a license may authorize one or more users, alone or as part of a studio or company, to utilize the Massive Worlds Toolkit in the creation of their work products and intellectual property. This Limited License is non-transferable and may, depending on the licensing tier acquired, be assigned, and utilized per Project or for an unlimited number of projects per Studio, and may or may not extend to sub-contractors, depending on the initial licensing agreement concluded between the parties.

  2. By default, Licenses will start at License Tier 0, which is acquired automatically by the Patron Subscriber upon obtaining the Massive Worlds Toolkit via a Patreon subscription, or through another authorized distribution method provided by ERWIN HEYMS. The Tier 0 License will apply for any project it is used in, while the conditions for Tier 0 are met.

  3. The Licensee is responsible for adhering to the conditions outlined for their acquired License Tier. If these conditions are not met, the Licensee must acquire a higher License Tier to be in compliance with these conditions, or cease using the Massive Worlds Toolkit on any projects for which the applicable conditions are no longer met.

  4. The License to the Massive Worlds Toolkit does not extend up to, or down from publishers or parent companies, only to individuals, their companies or their studio’s. Though it may extend to subcontractors of the individual or studio if the conditions outlined below are met.

  5. Usage of the Massive Worlds Toolkit on Projects within the Licensee’s Company or Studio (either as the owner, or as an employee of said business) requires that all conditions outlined in this document are adhered to by said business as the general conditions for usage of the Massive Worlds Toolkit.

  6. All amounts specified herein are denominated in Euros. These specified amounts shall be applicable to any other currency, with the equivalent value being determined based on the prevailing exchange rate at the time of the transaction.

  7. Forwarding of the Massive Worlds Toolkit’s Blackboxed Assets to Clients or Third Parties is not allowed under the Tier 0 License and would be in breach of the License agreement. However, options to expand your License to include specific Third Parties, such as clients of the Licensee are available within the License agreements of Tiers 1 and up.
Non/Limited Commercial License Conditions:

The Non/Limited Commercial License [ Tier 0 ] is provided as a subscriber bonus to Patrons and valid for use on an unlimited amount of projects for individuals and/or studio’s that meet ALL the following requirements of Tier 0:

  • The toolkit was acquired by you or your studio by official means. (Patreon subscription, or another authorized method provided by Erwin Heyms)
  • Products created with the Massive Worlds Toolkit must give credit regarding the usage of the Massive Worlds Toolkit and retain this copyright notice: “Copyright (c) 2023 – E HOUDINI ACADEMY All rights reserved. Redistribution and use of in source and binary forms, with or without modification, are prohibited without permission of the Author.”

 

If used for non-commercial use:

  • The Tier 0 License is valid to use on any projects as long as they are for non-commercial use.

 

If used for commercial use:

  • The Licensee or their Company/Studio earns less than 50.000 (Fifty Thousand) Euros of annual revenue from their activities that involve the usage of Houdini or the Unreal Engine.
  • The Project the Massive Worlds Toolkit is used with does not exceed 50.000 (Fifty Thousand) Euros of earnings (profits) over the Project’s lifetime. Once this amount is exceeded, the Licensee will have 60 days to acquire a higher tier license to be in compliance with the general conditions of use and to be allowed to continue using the toolkit on this project.
  • The Licensee or their Company/Studio has less than a total of 10 employees working on any projects that uses the Massive Worlds Toolkit at any given time.
  •  The Tier 0 License does NOT extend to subcontractors hired by the Licensee or their Company/Studio and is only valid for the Licensee as an Individual or their Company/Studio.

 

Trial period:

  • In case the conditions of Tier 0 are not met, the Tier 0 License comes with a 60 day trial period applicable for the first commercial project by the Licensee or their Company/Studio. After this 60 day trial period expires, the Licensee is required to contact ERWIN HEYMS ( erwin@ehoudiniacademy.com ) to upgrade to a higher License tier if they wish to keep using the toolkit for commercial use on this, or on any other projects that no longer qualify for a Tier 0 License.

 

In case the Non/Limited Commercial License does not apply:

  • The Licensee must acquire a higher tier license to continue using the Massive Worlds Toolkit.
